The 2023 selection of La Fabrique Cinéma includes 10 projects of 1st and 2ndfeature films. The directors and producers will pitch their projects and answer questions. Meet the participants coming from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal and Tunisia.

11 am. - 1 pm. : 2023, THE ANNEE DU DOCUMENTAIRE: FESTIVALS AS KEY PLAYERS IN THE PROMOTION OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS

Today, documentary films are on the move. Many have been awarded prizes and recognised in most of prestigious festivals, who are sometimes giving them a higher profile in their programs. Thus, festivals promote & support a booming cinema to an enthusiastic audience. The challenge today is to transform this increased interest in documentary cinema into a real attraction as much for the distribution and exhibition circuits as for the cinema-goers.

By gathering filmmakers from all over the world, this roundtable is an opportunity to discuss the standing of directors and creation in today’s global filmmaking sector, as well as the impact of changing economic models and new technologies, such as algorithms and artificial intelligence, on creative freedom.

3 pm. - 4:15 pm. : PARITY, EQUALITY, DIVERSITY! : DISCUSSION AND SHARING OF EXPERIMENTS WITH THE COLLECTIF 5050

Where do we stand on gender parity and the fight against gender-based and sexual violence in the film industry at the five-year milestone of #metoo?
This panel discussion will provide an opportunity to cross points of view across the world attempting to take an assessment of the situation. We will share various experiments and instruments by confronting them to a geopolitical analysis in order to build a strategy of international sorority.

CASA CINE is a screenwriting residency for cinema that accompanies filmmakers in the development of their first or second feature film projects and welcomes film score composers for a creative residency. Organized by La Napoule Art Foundation and SERENA Productions, CASA CINE takes place in May in the Château de la Napoule.

10 am. - 12 pm. : MASTERCLASS – DORA BOUCHOUCHA PATRON OF LA FABRIQUE CINEMA DE L’INSTITUT FRANÇAIS 2023

Dora Bouchoucha is the patron of La Fabrique Cinéma 2023. Film producer since 1994, Dora Bouchoucha is a major figure of cinema both in Tunisia and internationally, renowned for her support of arthouse cinema and for her role in the promotion of Arab and African film. Her name is today a reference in terms of cinema production.

In collaboration with the ACID (Association du Cinéma indépendant pour sa diffusion), this panel will put forward a discussion between film directors, producers, and residence operators with questions of wartime and periods of crisis creation and its support.

Meeting sessions « speed dating » with audiovisual attachés for film professionals wishing to carry out international projects. The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has a cooperation policy aimed at structuring the film industry in developing countries, strengthening international collaboration and promoting cultural diversity. The Ministry has a unique network of 45 audiovisual-media attachés or correspondents in French embassies, covering 94 countries.

11:30 am. - 1 pm. : CONFERENCE - INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION OF LA FRANCOPHONIE

The Francophone Film Fund will present the results of its commissions held in May (Cinema fiction / Documentary & Series) as well as an update on Clap ACP, its support programme for co-productions within the Global South, a partnership with 5 African film funds.

3 pm. - 6pm. : SEMBÈNE OUSMANE (1923-2023) – AFRICAN FILM HERITAGE : REINVENTING THE FUTURE

A roundtable discussion about Sembène Ousmane,  elder of the filmmakers of sub-Saharan Africa, highly committed to politics as well as being a talented filmmaker and writer, having built his life and work on values such as commitment, transmission, dignity and independence.
The second part of the roundtable discussion will be dedicated to the stakes of preservation and valorisation of the African cinematographic heritage in order to draw up an inventory, not exhaustive, with the various speakers attending.

In partnership with CNC, Institut Français and Ukrainian Institute, Marché du Film will host a pitching session with the aim to present ten Ukrainian feature film projects in development to potential co-producers, and financiers. These projects will be selected in collaboration with Pop Up Film Residency, LIM – Less Is More and Göteborg Film Fund. One of the projects selected will be awarded a prize, offered by the Pop Up Film Residency.
